Star Trek Into Darkness

So, I've watched the new Star Trek trailer three times now, and...

...there's nothing in it that appeals to me.

I'm not sure why, but I think it's because it doesn't feel even remotely like Star Trek. It's weird, because I loved the previous movie, and that didn't have the wide-eyed wonder I love about Trek either - nor, really, does DS9, my favourite of the TV series - but still. Maybe it's because those two were still imaginative, and this trailer feels like a generic sci-fi action movie.

I'm not nearly as versed in Trek things, but I agree. This doesn't feel much like Star Trek. Or any "let's go explore SPACE!" series the way I usually imagine them. I just spy a disappointing lack of... Starfleet. Uniforms, starship... or, you know, SPACE. Maybe they just haven't gotten around to those special effects yet?

Also, if that is Benedict Cucumberthing, like I think it is, I don't envy the fandom-to-be for the inevitable Sherlock Holmes invasion.

I'm gearing up to revisit Voyager for the first time since I was... 13, I think. And giving Babylon 5 a try. Maybe Farscape. And to think I once thought of myself as an almost exclusively fantasy girl.
