Today is St. Lucy's Day. Here in Scandinavia, we co-opted this day to mean yellow raisin buns and fire hazard. Yes, I baked. No, I didn't walk in a procession with live candles on my head.

Norwegian tradition says that you should be finished with Christmas preparations on December 13th, or the devil and the trolls and goblins will come and cause mischief. That means that the requisite animals should have been butchered, the tree cut down and decorated, and 7 types of cakes and cookies baked.

We're...not really following that tradition anymore. Well, I always try to make sort of 7 types of cakes and cookies, but that's because I like to keep the traditions that taste good. Which is why I baked buns today.

So, my international friends, what sort of traditions do you observe this time of year? And which have you kind of just shuffled aside?
