I need to collect my DW fanfic as well, right? Oh, so much of it... (That's sarcasm, BTW) (Edit: Actually, it is quite a bit of it now.)

Gundam Wing )

Avengers )

I will add other fandoms as I write for them.
ingvild: (Default)
I might as well post a masterlist for where people can find my fiction.

At fanfiction.net Stories for X-Men, X-Men: The Movie, X-Men: Evolution, Marvel, Elfquest and FAKE.
At the Elfquest forum Stories for Elfquest, obviously
Here on LJ Stories for Gundam Wing

I've also got some Northstar stuff in the Twin One community, but that's ages ago and it sort of sucked, so I can't be bothered to locate it. I've since fallen solidly out of love with everything X-Men related anyway.

Otherwise, click the fanfiction tag for other stuff as well as recs and musings.

I kind of love that a thread about someone being annoyed at all the raw pumpkins on the table in Thor can lead to this:

Ancient Asgardian tradition prescribes that before each meal all participants must prove their might by crushing a pumpkin with their forehead.

Loki's helmet is actually a pumpking headbutting aide given to him by Odin, who was worried that he would starve due to his lack of natural pumpkin smashing skill.

Also, have some ficrecs:

Hearing Voices The team gain telepathy, and suffer one another's flashbacks. But there are good memories as well. Features the best papa!Odin I've seen yet. Bonus chapter with Loki.

Cultural Differences The antidote to all the idiot!Thor fics out there. Not finished yet.
Edit: It's finished now, but I didn't finish it. As it went on, it became a little too tell not show for my tastes.

The Joke Steve can't understand why everyone pretends they can't lift Mjolnir. It's just a hammer.

The Proper Care and Feeding of Indefinable Things This fic series made me believe in Bruce/Natasha.

You must come in at the door ...Tony's related to the Nac Mac Feegle. Yeah.

I just wrote for the last prompt for gw500. I've written a fic every day in November so far. And now I'm done!

Maybe I'll write for one of the prompts again tomorrow, we'll see, but for now I'm fairly pleased with my amount of production.

Now, the quality of the fics isn't always too good, but...

Hi, long time no speak. I've updated my LJ more often than my DW (barely), but right now, I'm considering moving, and so, I'm currently on my third day of trying to import my LJ to here. Should it take this long?

Also, looks like I'm not doing NaNo this year either, but I have another goal: to do all the prompts I have missed in [community profile] gw500, which means...posting a fic every day, and two for six days. Piece of cake.

(What have I got myself into?)

Aargh...

So, today it's one month until Christmas Eve. I have lined up my schedule, and found out that I have time to relax roughly on Dec 26th.

Naturally, this means that I should offer to do fic presents for everyone who wants them!

If you want a story, give me a fandom, a character/pairing and a prompt, and I will write you a fic present.

Rules:
1. Make the prompt by Dec 10th.
2. It has to be mostly fluffy. I won't write pure angst or horror or any of that stuff this time of year.
3. Gen, het, femslash or canonslash only.
4. Asking for bashing gets you disqualified for present.
5. Only fandoms you know that I'm familiar with.
6. Shortfic only due to time constraints.
7. Let me know if you want me to tell you Happy (Belated) Chanukah or something instead of Merry Christmas.
8. Let me know how I should get the fic to you - e-mail, post in a comment in your LJ/DW, post on my LJ/DW, whatever.
9. If I have no idea who you are, I won't write for you. This is for people I'm fairly friendly with.

I feel, very strongly, that something can easily be a good fic without necessarily being a good fanfic.

A good fic, or story as they call it outside fandom, manages to convey something. It can have characterisation, plot, buildup, resolution, world-building, all sorts of stuff that makes it a nice read.

A good fanfic has that AND it stays true to to the world and the characters it uses.

So just because a lot of thought and effort has gone into a fic, and it's exciting and whatnot, it can fail completely as a fanfic.

And that's why character bashing fics always are badfics.

Icon not randomly chosen at all.

So, after a lot of time and much nagging on my part, my off-line friend just finished Gundam Wing. As the end credits of Endless Waltz rolled, she turned to me, bright-eyed and hopeful (yes you were. Don't argue) and asked if there was any good after-the-series fic around. And with heavy heart I had to answer truthfully: "No".

This is a slight exaggeration. Manifestations was, and has remained, one of the best fanfics I've ever read. But in general, Gundam Wing fandom can be broken down like this (at least it seems so):

Half haven't seen the show (1/2)
Half of the rest saw it once 15 years ago when they were 12 and didn't understand anything, and don't remember anything now (1/4)
Half of who's left remember how it went, but don't care (1/8)
And of the final 1/8, those who remember canon and care, half are too scared to go against fanon, 1/4 have been scared away, and 1/4 try but are drowned out.

Also, me rediscovering het due to GW nonwithstanding, this isn't the right fandom to not be interested in yaoi in.

So...a canon-compatible, after-the-series not-yaoi fic. Any recs?

Over to my current time-waster: Nanoha. Yeah, big surprise.

One thing I think is fun is to see how different people make different fanvids to the same song with the same show. I didn't realise I thought that was fun until I found three Nanoha vids using the song "Gong" by JAM Project (this is apparently the opening song to one of the Super Robot Wars games).

GONG
1
2
3

Here's another one from the same group:
SKILL
1

3

Also, I wonder if they've made a Nanoha for every damn Gundam opening there is. Omnicat, this one's for you. (They cleaned up some of the Nanoha animation for the DVD version, BTW. This is the TV version in all its hilarity.)

BTW: Shining Buster?

I'm putting up this list because even though no-one who reads my journal knows Gundam Wing, I might as well gather all my fanfic from that fandom in one place. Edited as I write more.

Can you tell I've been procrastinating?

...Yeah. Easy to see which pairing I prefer in this fandom, isn't it? The GW500 comm is very good for me, because the prompts usually make me write something other than Relena/Heero. (Also known as 1xR, Rx1, 1+R, R+1, or HYxRP, even though she doesn't call herself Peacecraft anymore.) How do you like my icon, BTW? Made it myself.

I first discovered Matt Nute when I read an Authority story he's written called Generator. Matt handles a large cast better than anyone else I've ever seen, he has a solid grasp of characterization, and years in the army gives him a better insight into action sequences than most. He also writes funny stories like Genetic Superiority, World Domination, and a Double Chocolate Mocha Latte To Go, Please (Waterfall should appreciate that one. It's Magneto), and lots of other stories that I will take some time exploring soon. Matt writes Marvel comics, DC, Wildstorm and Vertigo. He's also got a very funny Preacher/X-Files crossover. Matt deserves more appreciation.

http://www.comicfic.net/fic/nute/index.htm

And while we're on it - the archive where I found both Dex and Matt Nute is one of the better ones out there. Unlike so many others, these authors seem to care about characterization, plot and generally making good stories. http://www.comicfic.net/news/

Beaubier writes some of the best Northstar fanfic on the enitre 'net. Her knowledge of his backstory is extensive, and her handling of his character is solid. Not to meniton that the stories are intriguing.

FANFIC AUTHORS' APPRECIATION DAY WEEK: March 6 through March 13
Post to your LJ each day at least one of your favorite fanfic authors and why you love them, their work, and why they need more appreciation.

Let's see, I have for the 6, 7 and 8. Let's see if I can get to today.

http://www.themedicinewheel.net/
Minisinoo writes the best Scott fics on the 'net. Period. She's a professional writer, and it shows. You need a few days to get through one of her series, but it's worth it.

http://www.ravenswing.com/~mirrorgirl/index.html
Jane St. Clair has a rather special writing style. There are some of her stories that I don't read because I don't approve of the pairing, but every Alpha Flight and X-Force story she's written, I've read. She's really good.

http://www.thedarkarts.org/authorLinks/Camwyn/Hellblazer_Hogwarts/

And lastly, Camwyn, author of Hellblazer: Hogwarts. Over at Straight To Hell, they commented that this crossover with Harry Potter was better than a lot of the Hellblazer comics had been.
ingvild: (Default)
Kerjen http://www.kerjen.net/ writes the best Spock/Saavik fiction on the 'net. She's got elaborate histories, mirror universe stories, and stories featuring their remarkably rounded children that she made up. Absolutely worth a read.

Since I started this a bit late, I thought maybe I should add one more fanfic author.

Dex has written the possibly best Hellblazer/BtVS crossover on the 'net. I love this story, and I keep reccing it everywhere I think someone who'll be interested in it will find it. I also like his Authority/Preacher/Hellblazer/X-Men story, Last Call. It's brilliant. I want to read all his stuff sometime soon. http://www.comicfic.net/fic/dex/index.htm

In honour of good fanfiction week, I present to you:

http://members.aol.com/MacedonPg/index.html

Macedon. He no longer writes, and I've only read the stories that involve Jake Sisko, but DAMN! I sat up until half past midnight and put off a lot of required reading for these stories. It's the sort of stories that make you think that maybe, just maybe, all Trek fanfic isn't just crapfic.

In other news: My parents are weird. Mum was talking about global languages and such, and mentioned something about German and Goethe's Faust and how that was still important as long as the people who read it decide school curriculums, and dad disagreed - at which point my mother said that "You're completely infected by the anti-intellectualism of the political left". Dad couldn't let that lie, so he stood up on his chair and started singing opera. Two lines from Faust in German.

I love my family.

Oooops.

I said SFX #164; it was, of course, #125. Mistake.

I have spent a lot of time lately on a site called "Godawful Fanfiction". If you're tired of badfics, this is the place to complain. http://www.godawful.net/forums/

Eirik, du kommer hjem i morgen, sant? Ring meg når du har tid og er kommet over jet-lagen.

I have lots to do today.

Todays quote: "When you've had your fill of slash, gen, and 'ship fiction (fanfic terms for various character enganglements), when you groan at the arrival of each new "Mary Sue" (a ludicrously empowered author proxy), when you find yourself wishing every story you read had been beta-ed (i.e. edited), then it's time to visit Godawful Fan Fiction, where the worst fan fiction on the Web is filleted with the hot knife of peer criticism." - The New York Times Book Review

A conversation Northstar has with his students after the final Magneto fuck-up. Grant Morrison, that was unnecessary. (Really, Charles summed it all up when he said “The worst thing you did was to come back”.)

Out of necessity I had to make up all the students (I don’t know which ones are in his class! I don’t read New Mutants). Sorry about the original characters, but they were necessary. I hope they came across two-dimensional. (All of them have a life of their own inside my head. I have no life outside my head. Which is why this story exists. Read. Please?) Read more... )
