Wow, it's been a while since I posted, hasn't it? I really need to shape up, I've been completely negligent of my online life. Haven't read my friend's page in ages either, or posted any fic, or anything.

Anyway, I recently discovered a new obsession. I used to recommend Gakuen Alice for parents who came into our shop looking for something for their 10-11-year-old daughters, and thought that "hey, maybe I should read past the first three chapters soon". So I did.

I'm not recommending that for young girls anymore.

Don't get me wrong, it's really, really good. Like, so good that I more or less think that the greatest tragedy of Tokyopop going under is that this series won't be translated to the end. So good that I'm considering downloading and actually printing out fan scanlations of the latest volumes. So good that I check every day for an update now that it's going towards the end.

But it's a bit too dark for kids, I think. There's a reason there's a suggestion that one should be 13 to read it. The story surrounding the male lead in particular is quite gruesome. Luckily, the female lead (and central protagonist) is sunny and cheery and a delight, really. It's kind of like Fruits Basket, actually - without Mikan (and in Furuba, Tohru) the story would be too gloomy to handle.

But what should a rec for parents and their daughters now? Any suggestions?
