Suddenly I have an OTP

ingvildI was first introduced to Gundam Wing through fanfiction. In fact, it was a crossover with Ronin Warriors/Yoroiden Samurai Troopers. (Another show I hadn't actually seen, in fact.) It was only at the end of last November that I actually tracked down the episodes and watched the show itself.
And...Look, I used to read yaoi fics. Loads of them. Usually Heero/Duo, actually. But once I watched the show, I couldn't anymore, because by episode one Heero/Relena intrigued me, and by episode two I was hooked - and it just kept going. Heero's hissyfit in episode six, when he saves Relena without understanding why, had me giggling and 'awww'-ing at once. The scene in my icon almost made me wibble. The first time I actually used anything as a desktop image, it was the cuddling scene from Endless Waltz.
Others have written support for the pairing better than I could, I just want to say:
I adore them because more than any of the others, they're based on mutual understanding, admiration and respect. They are equals.
Edit: Actually, I think I'll say something more for myself anyway.
I say I was hooked from episode 2, but I don't think either of them were in love at that point. Really, no. Relena was fascinated but a little weary, and Heero was annoyed and more than a little weirded out. That facial expression of his in that episode, when she bandages him up, practically screams "Why is this person being nice to me!?"
But things develop. Relena goes from someone who's overly dependent on others, and Heero goes from someone who trusts no-one but himself, to the point where both of them could manage on their own, but it's nice to have someone else around.
The scene I like to call "the formation of Heero and Relena's Mutual Admiration Society" really gets to the heart of why I ship them. Relena thinks that Heero is the most amazing person in the world - and that's okay, because Heero thinks that Relena is the most amazing person in the world too.
They've got that "supportive but not stifling, tell you if you're wrong and help you if you're right, gosh you really are great" dynamic going. They're both better people for having met one another. I think I really can't put it better than I did in my fic A View from the Gallery, so I won't try anymore.
Oh, and my favourite scene with them? Relena's not even in it. It's from the last episode, when Heero doesn't kill Zechs because "Relena would be sad" (direct quote). Awwww.

As for other pairings, it honestly doesn't matter so much to me. That's strange as well - I usually go with the one with the largest basis in canon, but GW is so very much not a romance series and EVERYONE make such a big impact on the others that I honestly can't see one way or another. I certainly don't ship along standard het or non-het lines.
For some reason, I want to write weird pairings. I want to write people who never even met in canon. That's actually a first for me. I want to write loads of yuri.
Oh, and one more thing: I adore every single female character in GW. Relena Peacecraft Darlian is probably one of the most hated characters in anime, but she's not only my favourite GW character - she's also one of my top anime characters ever. Some day I'll write about that - and why I can't decide whether or not this series should make my inner feminist laugh or cry.
