ingvildNow that I've figured out screencapping, you're getting Patlabor images, like I threatened promised. Note that these are from the TV series, not the movie series.
Labor: The common name for robots designed for heavy industrial use.
The rise of labors sparked a revolution in construction and civil engineering, but labor-related crime skyrocketed as well. To combat this new threat, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police created a patrol labor unit, the Special Vehicles Unit Second Section. This was the origin of Patlabor.
The Ingram mobile suit
was designed specifically for police work, with a stun baton
and a revolver

Section Two moving out: Captain's car, command car (giving commands to the Ingram), mobile suit carrier, and the Ingram itself.
Meet Noa Izumi.
Noa is the pilot of Ingram Unit One, AKA Alphonse.
Her partner in the command car is Asuma Shinohara.
The pilot of Unit Two is the very trigger-happy Ohta. His partner is Kanuka Clancy - to begin with. Kanuka was only there for six months, before she went home to New York (that's why she wasn't the second pilot - there was no point in adapting the Ingram to someone who wasn't staying.)
Kanuka was replaced by Takeo Kumagami.
The people in the carrier cars: Mikiyasu Shinshi and Hiromi Yamizaki.
The mechanics: Sakaki and Shige:
The Captains: Kiichi Gotoh (Division 2, where our heroes are) and Shinobu Nagumo (division 1, but she's in nearly every episode anyway)
Anyway.
We first meet Noa when she's late for the Labor aptitude test.
ZOMG ONOES! I WENT THE WRONG WAY!
And then the Ingram gets stolen. What's a girl to do?
Why, commandeer a motorcycle and go after them, of course.
Jumping onto the criminals, AAAAAAH!
..Wooops.
Better to follow in a car.
Just don't get out so the criminals get a chance to smash it, so you have to...
...run after them. Right.
She got onto the car.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Noa loves the smell of new giant robot.
She gets into the Ingram, and promptly names it "Alphonse".
Then she has to fight three bad guys.
.
And she kicks their butts.
And then Noa passes her test and is added to the team.
Daaaw, ain't she adorable?
