Constantine
Mar. 22nd, 2005 08:04 pmI went to see Constantine. I expected it to be an okay movie, completely separate from Hellblazer. It was a mediocre movie, completely separate from Hellblazer.
1. The main character, John Constantine himself, almost approached his Hellblazer counterpart a few times, but his OMG speshul! powers and Catholic faith ruined it.
2. The Devil wasn't scary enough.
3. Papa Midnite, the with doctor, prayed to the Lord in Latin. Does. Not. Compute.
4. The less said about Chaz Kramer, the better. My Chas Chandler would have spanked him and sent him back to his momma.
5. They pronouced it CON-stan-tine. It's supposed to be Con-STAN-tyne.
And I didn't really like Angela Dodson.
So all in all, if they had made the movie to be about Midnite (only they'd decided whether he should be a witch doctor or a Christian) and Beeman (the Q-like (Bond) figure), it would have been better. And remove all hints of it ever being associated with Hellblazer, because it didn't even have the right feel. It felt like a mix of various Vertigo plots and Dogma, only not as intriguing.
