Fruits Basket Love Post, part 6

Here is yet another spoilery post, concerning Tohru and the guy she ends up with, and some idiotic fan opinions about it.
Tohru ends up with Kyo in the end. I've seen people claim that he would abuse her.
...
Okay, on the surface of things, I can see how one would reach that conclusion. She is a girl who will forgive anything and considers other people more important than herself. He is a young man with anger management issues who has a history of blaming his troubles on other people. I can see how, with just that description, it wouldn't be a stretch to think he'd take out his anger on her.
However, this is Kyo Sohma and Tohru Honda, and it just. doesn't. fit.
1) Even if Tohru wouldn't defend herself (and I don't know, she was getting a little more assertive towards the end there), she's loved by a really huge amount of people. If anyone raised a hand to her more than once, they'd get a surprise visit from Uotani, Hanajima and half a dozen angry Sohmas. Heck, Hanajima could tell when Kyo had a dirty thought about Tohru!
2) Kyo doesn't hit girls. Seriously. He's been raised to think that this is the sort of thing one shouldn't do. The author mentioned once that part of the reason Kagura never has any problems beating Kyo, besides the fact that she's really strong, is that Kyo won't fight back. When he was panicking because a girl hugged his arm on his first day of school (BAD IDEA with a Sohma), he pushed her to the ground - and jumped out a window. He never actually hurt her, even when he was panicking - a pretty big deal for a character who, in his first appearance, broke through a roof. He flat out tells Uotani that if she wasn't a girl, he'd be kicking her butt.
3) Kyo has changed. Everyone comments on that - Hatsuharu, Kazuma (Shishou), and Momiji have all said something to that effect. What's more, after that summer home thing, when Kyo finally has to face the fact that he loves Tohru, he doesn't hit anyone anymore. Seriously. Not even Yuki. He gives Shigure one of those "perverted adult" smacks, but that's pretty much it. In fact, once when he is confronted over some stuff by Yuki, he doesn't hit him - he puts his fist through a window instead.
4) When he realises that he loves Tohru, Kyo desides not to pursue it - because he's scared she'll get hurt because of him (the way he thinks their respective mothers were). He even stops fighting against his fate. That's right - Kyo would rather go live in a cage for the rest of his life than be around Tohru in case he might hurt her. (He gets over that fear, probably because he realised that he was hurting her by putting distance between them.)
5) The entire theme of the story, as I've previously mentioned, is redemption through forgiveness. So if Kyo were to hit Tohru and she forgave him, he'd have to be changed for the better because of that, because that's how the world of Furuba works, dammit.
Not that he would hit her, because of point 2, 3 and 4, and if he did something so OOC anyway, he'd be in deep trouble because of point 1.
